GLRFH Assistant Program Director - Southeast Michigan

Great Lakes Regional Field Hockey (GLRFH) is a non-profit organization, established in 2019 to serve and support the growth of field hockey at the local level, across the state of Michigan and throughout the Great Lakes Region. We look to develop sports programs and opportunities that foster values of trust, respect and determination. We believe that field hockey is a sport for everybody. We strive to reach underserved communities, underrepresented populations and athletes from all socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. Job Description

Under the direction of the Program Director, and in accordance with the GLRFH Growth Model, the Assistant Program Director will oversee GLRFH middle school and high school field hockey programming in Southeast Michigan and at our Legacy Center location in Brighton, Michigan. This position is for a sports advocate with accelerated organizational, logistical and administrative skills who understands the process behind planning and running all aspects of sports programming. The assistant director work with existing community partnerships, schools & facilities, community leaders and youth sports directors to coordinate, market and expand existing programming such as learn and play for new (K-8) athletes, MS/HS league play, special clinics and events, small group skill sessions, goalkeeper training sessions and all other recreational opportunities. 

This position will also have a hand in developing a sports culture that ensures all participants learn field hockey skills in a fun, healthy and safe environment. The GLRFH playbook encourages fun, play-based learning and an adherence to on-site safety protocols. 

Qualifications

Previous coaching experience required.

The candidate should possess 1-3 years working in scheduling and/or sports and facilities management, experience building registrations, Google platform/drives, Microsoft Excel, and online database management. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/ job experience in administrative/operating procedures is preferred. Candidates will also be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and proficient marketing and promotional skills.  A field hockey playing and coaching background is preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Southeast Michigan program development:  run operations and administrations for all aspects of developmental programs throughout Southeast Michigan.  Continuation and expansion of successful Learn and Play and Explore programs.  
  2. Create opportunities for players at the middle school and high school levels to enjoy at locally centered locations.  This includes league play and skill clinics for both field players and goalkeepers.
  1. Direct & facilitate all aspects of the robust programming (K-12th) at Legacy Field Hockey in Brighton, MI (some onsite supervision/coaching may be required).

 

Responsibilities include: build and grow facility relationships, program administration, seasonal strategic planning, identifying, assigning and directing coaches & umpires, evaluating site performance, adhering to GLRFH quality standards, addressing issues and resolving problems directly related to programs, ensuring all programs are meeting GLRFH safety protocols, acting as a public champion for growth of the sport in the Southeast Michigan and Legacy Center locations. 

Requires: Remote work with onsite coordination may be required during hours of program operations.  Must provide their own transportation.  Based in Southeast Michigan.

Pay & Benefits:

  • Pay Range $31,000 – $33,000 (Compensation based on experience), 30 non-coaching hours/week
  • Additional income opportunities via coaching will be compensated based on the GLRFH coach pay scale. 
  • Middle School and/or High School umpiring in the fall is encouraged as another means to supplement pay.
  • Bonus pay based on YOY growth of development programming.

Our 5th year of internships will support GLRFH staff, provide developmental learning within a 501c3 non-profit organization and offer opportunities to work in communications, marketing, media, program & events planning and coordination + on-field coaching.

Our internships vary in length, please review job descriptions for specifics. You can expect 8-16 week positions with an explanation of term/scope and work requirements in each description. Final start/end dates will be determined at hiring.
