Great Lakes Regional Field Hockey is excited to OPEN our 2025 Internship program geared towards college students.

Our 5th year of internships will support GLRFH staff, provide developmental learning within a 501c3 non-profit organization and offer opportunities to work in communications, marketing, media, program & events planning and coordination + on-field coaching.

Our internships vary in length, please review job descriptions for specifics. You can expect 8-16 week positions with an explanation of term/scope and work requirements in each description. Final start/end dates will be determined at hiring.

(2) JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Coaching & Program Coordinator Intern

Duration: 8-9 weeks (1st week of June – July) Approximately 15 hours per week. On-site & remote work.

  • Compensation based on experience
  • Work to be compensated on a monthly basis
  • Work to be done as Independent Contractor
  • GLRFH will provide 1099-NEC for tax purposes & necessary paperwork

Position Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven intern to assist with field hockey coaching and programming for our summer season. This internship offers a blend of behind-the-scenes programming work, which can be done remotely, and hands-on coaching experience in the field. The ideal candidate will be passionate about field hockey, eager to learn, and capable of managing both programming and coaching responsibilities.


Program Duties (5 hours/week) 

  • Assist in the implementation of our summer field hockey programming, ensuring a well-structured and engaging experience for participants.
  • Coordinate logistics for our various summer events and clinics.
  • Provide administrative support for coaching staff and summer programs.
  • Communicate with participants, families, and coaches to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination for the various field hockey events and sessions.

Coaching Duties (~10 hours/week)

  • Coach field hockey (grades K-12) at various southeast Michigan locations throughout the summer. Coaching sessions will mostly be in the evening.
    • Lead and guide field hockey practice sessions, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
    • Assist with the development of session plans and drills that are appropriate for different skill levels.
    • Work closely with other coaches to ensure a positive and effective learning environment for all participants.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practice sessions.

Content Creator & Communications Internship

Duration: 20 weeks (June – November)

  • 4–6 hours per week at $15/hour – 100% remote/ option to cover on-site events
  • Compensation provided monthly
  • Work will be performed as an Independent Contractor
  • GLRFH will issue a 1099-NEC for tax purposes and handle all necessary paperwork

Position Overview:

The intern will assist in creating content and drafting communications for GLRFH’s media outlets, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and newsletters. This role supports the expansion of our media presence across the region by highlighting field hockey moments and athlete spotlights.


Content Creation & Social Media
  • Develop and maintain a weekly media schedule for consistent posting
  • Provide 1–3 posts per week targeted to regional audiences
  • Grow the GLRFH social media following across all platforms
  • Provide brief weekly updates on high school play in each state (August–November)
  • Contribute to the Great News in the Great Lakes articles
  • Write copy for at least 2 athlete/program spotlights per month (June–October)
  • Supply consented photos and videos to enhance content
  • Create a high school season recap for each state (October/November)

Administrative Support

  • Build and manage contact/tag lists
  • Conduct email outreach and introductions using the GLRFH email account
  • Create and distribute surveys and forms for content collection

Additional Information

  • Follow all GLRFH communication, graphic, and social media guidelines
  • Adhere to all GLRFH media policies and regulations
  • Report to Communications Director, Jessie Rouleau
  • Participate in two (2) hours of unpaid intern development, including mentorship conversations and strategic media training
